AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The COS Theatre Department invites all local performers to attend auditions for the Fall 2015 Season of Plays:

Tuesday, August 25th
and
Wednesday, August 26th

from 4pm - 6pm in the COS Theatre

You need only attend one of the dates to receive full consideration for casting.

NOTE: Auditions are open to all members of the community
Actors cast in a production must enroll in the proper class for college credit

Actors are ENCOURAGED to read both shows before auditioning

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS - 14 Person Cast (6M, 2F, 6 M/F)

Actors will be asked to convincingly PLAY the ages listed.  They do not have TO BE the ages listed.

Abraham Van Helsing (M, Late 40's-60’s)   A “philosopher and metaphysician, and one of the most advanced scientists of his day.”  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Dutch accent.

Jonathan Harker (M, early 20's)   An idealistic and naive young lawyer whose firm sends him to Transylvania to conclude a real estate transaction. He eventually emerges as a brave and fearless fighter.  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Standard British accent.

Mina Murray (F, early 20’s)   Harker’s intelligent and resourceful fiancée and the heroine of the story, embodying purity, innocence, and Christian faith.  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Standard British accent.

Lucy Westenra (F, early 20's)   Mina’s best friend and an attractive, vivacious young woman who has three men competing for her affections.  The first character to fall under Dracula’s spell.  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Standard British accent.

Dr. Jack Seward (M, late 20's)   Formerly Van Helsing’s pupil, and now one of Lucy’s suitors, this brilliant, if bookish, young doctor runs an entire mental asylum.  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Standard British accent.

Arthur Holmwood (M, late 20's)  Lucy’s fiancé and a friend to Seward and Morris, he is a dashing and romantic British Lord Actor will be called upon to speak with a Standard British accent.

Quincy Morris (M, late 20's)   An American from Texas, and another of Lucy’s suitors.   The classic noble cowboy, he proves himself a brave and loyal friend.  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Texan accent.

Renfield (M, 30’s - 40's) Harker’s predecessor at the law firm but now a patient at Seward’s mental asylum and Dracula’s disciple. Variously a dangerous madman and a refined gentleman.  Actor will be called upon to speak with a Standard British accent.

The Shadows (M/F) Six actors who puppeteer all of the supernatural elements (Dracula, Brides, Coachman, Wolf, Bat) as well as perform various ensemble roles (Asylum Orderlies, Demeter Captain & Crew,  Servants,  Nuns, Londoners, Gypsies).  Actors will be called upon to speak with various accents (Cockney / Standard British / Russian / Romanian).


REHEARSALS BEGIN SEPTEMBER 1 
and continue Monday-Friday from 6-10pm

Ken Gorman (M, Early 40’s) A well-spoken, handsome attorney. Wealthy, but by no means pretentious.  A bit high strung.

Chris Gorman (F, Late 30’s ) Another lawyer, married to Ken. Beautiful, easily flustered. Frantically tries to maintain normalcy at the party. Has recently quit smoking, which drives her to drink a bit more.  

Lenny Ganz (M, Late 30’s) A wealthy accountant who has just wrecked his brand new BMW. Irascible, sarcastic, and very likeable.

Claire Ganz (F, Late 20’s-30’s) Lenny’s gossip-monger, attractive wife. A Westchester, New York housewife.

Ernie Cusack (M, Early 50’s) A smug if affable psychiatrist. 

Cookie Cusack (F, Late 40’s) Ernie’s wife and a cooking show host with a bad back. She has a very dramatic, physical personality.

Glenn Cooper (M, Late 30’s) An ambitious, polished man preparing for a run for the state senate. Worried about his own reputation. Struggles with placating his insecure wife. 

Cassie Cooper (F, Late 20’s) Glenn’s trophy wife. Jealous, insecure, sexy, and shrewish.

Officer Welch (M/F, 30’s-50’s) A vigorous, straight- talking, veteran police officer that sees through the “classy” façade that these high society types put up. 

Officer Pudney (M/F, 20’s-30’s) Welch’s partner. A rookie cop; strong but silent.
